What counts as a call on an AI answering plan?
- The short answer
- On a GreetKeeper plan, a call counts when GreetKeeper answers an inbound call from a real caller. Robocalls and spam calls are screened out before the greeting and don't count. Very short calls don't count either. Each counted call is billed once, however long it runs, against the 200, 750 or 2,000 calls in your plan.
The longer answer
Vendors in this market count different things, so two plans with the same allowance can cover very different months. Per-minute plans count talk time. Goodcall counts unique customers, so one person calling repeatedly is counted once. GreetKeeper counts answered calls.
Under a per-minute plan, a long call uses more of your bundle than a short one. Rosie's $49 plan holds 250 minutes and Dialzara's $29 plan holds 60, as of September 2026. How many calls that is depends on how long your callers talk.
Under a per-call plan, length drops out of the sum. A caller who spends nine minutes describing a roof leak counts as one call, the same as a caller asking what time you close.
Before you compare any two allowances, ask each vendor the same pair of questions. Does a robocall use up part of my bundle? Does a caller who hangs up during the greeting count as a call or a minute? The answers tell you how much of the allowance your real customers will get, which matters more than the headline number printed on the plan.
Calls that never count toward your GreetKeeper plan
Robocalls and spam calls. GreetKeeper drops silent or robotic callers before the greeting plays. They never reach your call log as a counted call, and they never touch your allowance.
Very short calls. A pocket dial or a caller who hangs up at once isn't a conversation, so it isn't billed as one.
Calls you pick up yourself. If you forward only on no-answer or busy, every call you answer on your own phone stays with you. The calls that forward are the ones GreetKeeper answers. The ring count is set where the forwarding is set, and GreetKeeper answers the moment the call arrives.
Calls you place. GreetKeeper answers inbound calls, so the calls your team dials out from its own phones are no part of the plan.
How GreetKeeper handles it
Every call arrives as a transcript and a short summary, so you can check your count against real conversations. You'll see who rang, why, and what happened next.
Past the allowance, each answered call costs $0.45 on Starter, $0.35 on Professional and $0.25 on Scale. That rate is the same for a one-minute call and a fifteen-minute one.
Your 14-day free trial is a clean way to measure this. Forward your line, let GreetKeeper answer for two weeks with no card on file, and read the log. You'll know which plan fits before you pay anything.
Call counting questions
Does a long call count as more than one call?
No. GreetKeeper bills per answered call, so a twelve-minute call counts once. On a per-minute plan the same call would use twelve minutes of your bundle.
Do spam calls count against my GreetKeeper allowance?
No. GreetKeeper screens out robocalls and spam calls before the greeting, and screened calls never count toward your plan. You pay for callers, not for the dialler that rang you by mistake.
How do I count my calls before choosing a plan?
Pull the last full month from your carrier's call log and strike out the numbers you know are spam. What's left is close to what GreetKeeper would count. Under 200 calls, Starter at $49 covers it; under 750, Professional at $149 does.
