Setup guides

One page per carrier and phone system: the exact codes or menu path to forward your calls to GreetKeeper, in all four modes, with a test call at the end.

Forwarding is the whole setup. GreetKeeper gives you a dedicated local number, in the area code you choose at signup, one for each location, and it's included in every plan. Your existing number stays yours, and nothing is ported. You tell your carrier or phone system to send calls to the GreetKeeper number, and GreetKeeper answers the moment a call arrives.

Carriers offer four forwarding modes, and GreetKeeper answers a call forwarded on any of them the same way. All-calls forwarding sends every call straight over. Busy forwarding sends a call when your line is engaged. No-answer forwarding sends a call after your phone has rung for a set delay. Unreachable forwarding sends a call when your phone is off or out of signal. Each guide gives the code or menu path for all four, read from the carrier's own help page, with the date it was read.

One thing to know before you start: the ring count is set where the forwarding is set, and GreetKeeper answers the moment the call arrives. Verizon fixes the no-answer delay at about 30 seconds. AT&T and T-Mobile let you pick between 5 and 30 seconds. Most VoIP systems put the delay in their admin dashboard. Each guide names the range for its carrier, so you know what you're choosing before you dial.

Which mode suits your business? If your front desk answers most calls and you want GreetKeeper to take the ones that ring out, use no-answer. If you run one line and hate the busy tone, use busy. If you want every call answered by GreetKeeper on the days you're closed, switch to all calls when you lock up and reverse it in the morning. Each guide includes a short section on this, written for the kind of business that tends to use that carrier.

Every guide ends the same way: make a test call. Ring your own number from another phone, let it forward, and listen for the GreetKeeper greeting. Then check that the call arrived as a transcript and a short summary. If the greeting never plays, the guide's undo step returns your line to how it was, and the quirks section lists what that carrier is known to get wrong.

You'll find guides for mobile carriers such as Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile, for business phone systems such as RingCentral and Nextiva, for Google Voice, and for the built-in forwarding on iPhone and Android. A phone system guide covers the admin dashboard rather than a dial code, because that's where the forwarding and the ring delay both live on those systems.

Codes get lifted and pasted all over the web, and plenty of them are out of date. That's why every code here carries the carrier's own help-page URL and the date it was read. Check the date before you dial. If your carrier has changed its code since, the carrier page linked from the guide is the one to trust, and the guide will be corrected against it.
