The best AI receptionists for therapists and counseling practices
GreetKeeper is our product, and it ranks first for private practices on the method below. A prospective client can book a first consultation while you're in session, and the AI disclosure plays at the start of the call. It costs $49 for 200 calls, with booking included.
A therapist can't answer mid-session, and a person who finally worked up the courage to call may not call twice. The practice phone needs to answer warmly, take the details and offer a time, then keep everything clinical out of the conversation.
Ruby staffs human receptionists from $250 for 50 minutes. Smith.ai adds a human team behind its AI on the $150 Pro plan. Abby Connect sells one currency for human and AI minutes from $165.
Rosie starts at $49 for 250 minutes with booking on its $149 plan, and Dialzara at $29 for 60 minutes.
How this was put together
Disclosure: GreetKeeper is our product. We compared six vendors in September 2026 for solo and group therapy practices. Every rival figure was read on the vendor's own pricing page that month.
What we compared
- Whether a new client can book a consultation during the call, on the entry plan.
- Whether the AI can disclose itself at the start of the call, which Utah requires for psychology and other regulated occupations.
- Whether call recording is a setting the practice controls.
- What a month of intake and rescheduling calls costs.
- How an urgent call reaches the clinician.
The shortlist at a glance
Billing unit first, because it decides more of the final bill than the headline price does.

What to check before a practice picks one
Check the disclosure first. Utah's AI law asks regulated occupations, psychology among them, to disclose AI verbally at the start of the call. Maine requires a clear notice wherever a consumer might think they're talking to a person. GreetKeeper's disclosure setting says so in the greeting you write.
Keep the call to scheduling. GreetKeeper captures the caller's name, number and reason, offers a consultation time and reads it back before booking. Clinical notes stay in your practice system. Call recording is a setting you switch on or off, paired with its own disclosure.
Plan for the urgent call. Write a transfer rule that puts it through to the on-call clinician, and GreetKeeper tries a second number if the first isn't picked up. You can also add 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, to your after-hours greeting.
Our own pricing, in full
Including the rate after the allowance, which is the number most of this list leaves off.
| Plan | Monthly | Calls included | After that |
|---|---|---|---|
| StarterFor a single location taking calls one line at a time. | $49 | 200 | $0.45 per call |
| ProfessionalBooking, routing and transfers included, not an add-on. | $149 | 750 | $0.35 per call |
| ScaleFor busy phones and longer opening hours. | $349 | 2,000 | $0.25 per call |
The short version
- Booking is included on every tier. Rosie keeps booking and live transfer behind its $149 plan.
- The overage rate is on the pricing page. Rosie, Ruby, Slang and AnswerConnect do not publish theirs.
- Calls are counted, not minutes, so a long useful conversation costs the same as a short one.
Questions people ask about this list
Can an AI receptionist book a first session for a therapist?
Yes. GreetKeeper books into Google Calendar or Outlook during the call on every plan, from $49 for 200 calls. It reads the name, number and time back before it books, and the caller then receives one text with the confirmation.
Does a therapy practice have to tell callers they're speaking with AI?
In Utah, psychology and other regulated occupations must disclose AI verbally at the start of the call. Maine requires a clear notice where a consumer could be misled. GreetKeeper's disclosure setting handles both in the greeting, and our compliance page covers the detail.
What does the AI receptionist record about my clients?
GreetKeeper works with enquiry and scheduling data: the caller's name, number, reason for calling and the booked time. Each call arrives as a transcript and a short summary. Treatment details belong in your own practice system, and recording is a setting you control.
How much does an AI receptionist cost for a private practice?
GreetKeeper's Starter plan is $49 a month for 200 answered calls, and each call past that is $0.45. A group practice with several clinicians often fits Professional at $149 for 750 calls. Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial with no card.
