Vonage forwarding rules can send calls to GreetKeeper

Extension forwarding and virtual receptionist options both take an external number. GreetKeeper answers there and writes nothing back.

“Nobody picked up at the branch. I've locked myself out of the van and I need to know if you have a spare key for it.”

What happened next

  • Vehicle registration and the caller's location noted in the transcript
  • Escalated in the summary as urgent, based on the rules you set
  • Text of the summary posted to your on-call webhook the moment the call ended

How GreetKeeper connects to Vonage

Three states, and we publish the one that is true rather than the one that reads best.

What Vonage is in this setup

Vonage Business Communications is a cloud phone service for small and mid-sized companies. Extensions, virtual receptionists and call groups are managed from the admin portal.

Every extension has call forwarding rules. You can forward always, on no answer, when busy, or when the device cannot be reached.

The virtual receptionist adds another route. A menu option or a timeout can send the caller to an external number, and that number can be GreetKeeper's.

Where the call record lands

Vonage records the call in its own history. GreetKeeper keeps the conversation and sends it to you separately.

Vonage's call log holds the inbound call and the forward, with times and durations. It has no field for what the caller wanted, and GreetKeeper does not add one.

The GreetKeeper record arrives as an email or a webhook payload, with the transcript, the summary and the caller's number. Field businesses often send it to a webhook that pages whoever is on call.

Appointments land in your connected calendar rather than anywhere in Vonage. That write is direct.

Forwarding from Vonage

Admin portal. Pick one extension, not the whole company, for the first test.

  1. Choose the extension or receptionist

An extension covers one line. The virtual receptionist covers everyone who dials your main number. Start with the extension.

  2. Open its call forwarding settings

In the Vonage admin portal, open the extension and find call forwarding. You'll see the conditions listed, including no answer and busy.

  3. Enter your GreetKeeper number

Add it against the condition you want, usually no answer. Set the ring count so your team gets a fair chance to pick up first.

  4. Let the extension ring out

Call it from outside and do not answer. GreetKeeper should take it. Read the transcript, then check the Vonage log to see what it did and did not record.

Questions about Vonage and GreetKeeper

Extension forwarding or virtual receptionist?

Extension forwarding for one person's line. The virtual receptionist when you want every caller to your main number covered.

Does GreetKeeper appear in Vonage reporting?

Only as a forwarded call. The transcript and summary stay in GreetKeeper and reach you by email or webhook.

Can I forward only when the branch is closed?

Use the virtual receptionist's closed-hours path and point it at your GreetKeeper number. Open-hours routing is unaffected.
