How to forward CenturyLink calls to GreetKeeper
A copper CenturyLink line uses one code. Connected Voice gives you four. Pick yours, dial it, then ring your line from another phone.
The four forwarding modes on CenturyLink
CenturyLink sells two kinds of phone line, and each has its own codes. A traditional landline forwards every call with *72. Connected Voice, CenturyLink's internet phone service, adds separate codes for a busy line, an unanswered call and an adapter that has dropped offline.
| Mode | Traditional landline | Connected Voice | What forwards |
|---|---|---|---|
| All calls | *72, then your GreetKeeper number | *72 | Every call, the moment it reaches your line |
| Busy | *72 during the hours you're tied up | *90 | A call that arrives while you're already talking |
| No answer | *72 whenever you step away | *92 | A call nobody picks up before the timeout runs out |
| Unreachable | *72 before you leave the line unattended | *94 (unregistered) | A call to a Connected Voice adapter that has lost power or internet |
On a landline, *73 switches forwarding off. Connected Voice's guide says you manage, activate and deactivate each code from the phone itself, so dial the same code again to change it.
Codes read on CenturyLink's Call Forwarding help page, https://www.centurylink.com/home/help/home-phone/calling-features/use-call-forwarding-to-send-your-calls-to-another-phone.html, and the Connected Voice user guide, https://www.centurylink.com/home/help/home-phone/connected-voice/connected-voice-guide.html, on 24 September 2026.
Set up forwarding on CenturyLink
Five steps, from copying the number to switching it off again.
Copy your GreetKeeper number
Sign in to GreetKeeper and copy your local number. Keep it in front of you, because a landline gives you only a few seconds between tones.
Work out which CenturyLink line you have
A phone plugged into the wall jack on a copper line is a traditional landline. A phone plugged into a Connected Voice adapter or router is Connected Voice, and it gets the extra busy, no-answer and offline codes.
Dial the code and the number
On a landline, press *72, wait for the stutter tone and then the normal dial tone, and dial your GreetKeeper number. CenturyLink asks you to stay on until someone answers. GreetKeeper picks up, which confirms the forward, and you can hang up.
Ring your business line from a mobile
Call your CenturyLink number from a different phone. Ask for a quote on a Tuesday morning and hang up. Then check that the transcript, the summary and the text to your on-call person came through.
Switch it off when you're back
Press *73 on a landline and listen for two short tones. Your CenturyLink number never moved, so your listings and your van lettering stay exactly as they are.
Matching a CenturyLink code to the way you work
Picture a family HVAC outfit in a rural county, running a copper CenturyLink line from the office. Mornings are covered by the owner's wife at the desk. When she leaves for the school run at 2:45, she dials *72, and GreetKeeper books the afternoon's furnace checks until she's back and presses *73.
A two-lawyer office on Connected Voice wants its receptionist to answer first. *92 fits that office. Calls the receptionist can reach stay in the office. Anything left ringing past the timeout goes to GreetKeeper, which takes the caller's name, number and reason for calling.
Storm season is the *94 case. If a power cut knocks your Connected Voice adapter offline, CenturyLink treats the line as unregistered and forwards the call. Your customers reach a greeting instead of silence, and you read the summaries on your phone once the lights come back.
A busy single line is the *90 case. While you're on the phone with a supplier, the next caller goes to GreetKeeper, which answers calls that arrive together at the same time. Both callers get a real conversation, and nobody hears a busy signal.
CenturyLink details worth knowing first
Your old phone gives a short ring each time a call forwards. CenturyLink's help page describes it, and it's a handy signal that GreetKeeper is taking a call right now.
Unsure if forwarding is on? Press *72 again on a landline. A rapid busy tone means it's on, and a normal dial tone means it's off.
In some CenturyLink areas you can switch forwarding on from any phone. Call the access number for your area, enter your phone number without the area code, enter PIN 3, then press *72 and your GreetKeeper number.
Forwarding beats Call Waiting to the punch. If you have both, CenturyLink forwards the call before Call Waiting can beep, so a *72 line never splits your attention mid-call.
A busy tone when you press *72 usually means the phone is set to pulse dialing. Flip the P/T switch to tone, or change it in the phone's setup menu, and dial again.
CenturyLink forwarding questions
Which CenturyLink code forwards only the calls I miss?
On Connected Voice it's *92, which forwards a call nobody answers before the timeout. A traditional CenturyLink landline forwards with *72, so you switch it on when you step away and off with *73 when you're back.
Why does my CenturyLink phone ring once when a call forwards?
CenturyLink's help page says the original phone gives a short ring each time a call is forwarded. The call then goes on to your GreetKeeper number, and GreetKeeper answers the moment it arrives.
Will forwarding my CenturyLink line cost long distance?
Pick a GreetKeeper area code inside your local calling area at signup and the forward stays local. CenturyLink charges its applicable rates when the destination is a long distance or toll number.
How do I check that *72 worked on CenturyLink?
Pick up the landline and press *72 again. A rapid busy tone means forwarding is on; a normal dial tone means it's off. Then ring the line from a mobile and read the transcript GreetKeeper sends.
Do robocalls to my CenturyLink number use up my plan?
No. GreetKeeper drops silent and robotic callers before the greeting, and screened calls don't count toward your plan. Real callers get the greeting and the booking.
Press *72 and hear it answer
Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial, every feature on, no card. Your CenturyLink number stays on your van and your listing.
