How to forward Android calls to GreetKeeper

Galaxy phones name all four forwarding options in one menu. Pixel phones hand the job to your carrier. Both take about a minute.

The four forwarding modes on Android

Samsung lists four forwarding options by name in the Galaxy Phone app, so you can pick a mode by tapping it. On a Pixel, forwarding and ring length belong to your mobile carrier, and you set them with your carrier's codes.

ModeSamsung Galaxy optionPixel (Verizon codes shown)Good for
All callsAlways forward*72 + your GreetKeeper numberDays off, holidays, a full day on a roof
BusyForward when busy*71 + your GreetKeeper numberA one-person business that's often mid-call
No answerForward when unanswered*71 + your GreetKeeper numberPicking up when you can and letting GreetKeeper take the rest
UnreachableForward when unreachable*71 + your GreetKeeper numberA phone that's switched off, flat or out of signal

On a Galaxy, open the Phone app, tap More options (the three dots), then Settings, Supplementary services and Call forwarding. Samsung notes that availability varies by carrier and phone model. On AT&T or T-Mobile, a Pixel uses that carrier's own codes instead of Verizon's.

Set up forwarding on Android

Five steps, from copying the number to switching it off again.

  1. Grab your GreetKeeper number

Open GreetKeeper and copy the ten-digit local number. On the same Android phone you can long-press it and paste it straight into the forwarding field.

  2. Open the forwarding screen

On a Galaxy, go to Phone, then More options, Settings, Supplementary services and Call forwarding. On a Pixel, open the dial pad, because the carrier code does the work.

  3. Choose a mode and enter the number

Tap Forward when unanswered on a Galaxy, paste the number and tap Enable. On a Pixel with Verizon, dial *71 followed by the number and press call.

  4. Test it from someone else's phone

Ask a friend to ring your mobile while you let it go. GreetKeeper should answer, and a transcript and summary arrive once they hang up.

  5. Turn it off the same way

On a Galaxy, open the same option and disable it. On a Pixel with Verizon, dial *73. Nothing about your number changes, so there's nothing to port back.

Which Android option suits your day

Say you run a mobile dog-grooming van from a Galaxy S-series phone. Your hands are wet for forty minutes at a time. Forward when unanswered lets you grab the calls you can, and GreetKeeper books the owners you can't reach into your calendar.

A locksmith who is often on one call while another rings wants Forward when busy switched on too. Turn it on alongside Forward when unanswered, and a second caller reaches GreetKeeper while you're quoting the first.

Forward when unreachable suits the week your battery dies on a job site. The forward lives at your carrier, so callers still reach GreetKeeper while the phone is dark.

Take a Sunday off with Always forward. Your mobile stays quiet, and GreetKeeper answers every caller, takes their details and texts the on-call person if something can't wait until Monday.

Android details that trip people up

Galaxy menus move a little between models and carriers. Samsung says so on its own page, so if Supplementary services looks different, search Settings for Call forwarding.

A Pixel on Google Fi follows Fi's rule. Google's Fi help says forwarding is set on fi.google.com or in the Fi app, never in the phone's own settings.

Call waiting sits on the same Supplementary services screen. With it on, a second caller beeps in on your call. Switch it off if you want Forward when busy to hand that caller to GreetKeeper.

A Pixel on AT&T or T-Mobile uses that carrier's codes, and both carriers let you pick a 5 to 30 second delay. Choose 15 or 20 seconds if you want a fair chance to pick up first.

Android forwarding questions

Where is call forwarding on a Samsung Galaxy?

Open the Phone app, tap the three dots, then Settings, Supplementary services and Call forwarding. Samsung lists Always forward, Forward when busy, Forward when unanswered and Forward when unreachable there.

How do I forward calls on a Google Pixel?

Use your carrier's forwarding codes from the Pixel dial pad. On Verizon that's *71 for missed calls or *72 for every call, and *73 turns it off. Pixel owners on Google Fi set forwarding in the Fi app instead.

Can I change how many times my Android rings before forwarding?

Yes on AT&T and T-Mobile, which allow 5 to 30 seconds. Verizon fixes it at about 30 seconds. Google's Phone app help sends you to your carrier for this setting, because the carrier holds it.

Will my texts forward to GreetKeeper as well?

Android call forwarding moves calls only, so texts keep arriving on your phone. After a call, GreetKeeper texts the caller once with the booking link or the booking confirmation.
