AnswerConnect alternatives
Shopping away from AnswerConnect usually starts with the bill rather than the service. Calls are reported to be rounded up to the whole minute, there's a setup fee of around $49.99 to get started, and you had to speak to someone before you saw a price at all. Here's the field with the numbers printed.
| Service | Bills by | Entry price | Overage published? |
|---|---|---|---|
| GreetKeeper | Answered call | $49 for 200 calls | Yes, $0.45 a call |
| Smith.ai | Per call | Free tier at $0 for 25 calls, then $3.00 a call | Yes |
| Ruby | Per minute | $250/mo for 50 minutes | No |
| Rosie | Per minute | Professional $49/mo for 250 minutes | No |
| Goodcall | Per unique caller | Starter $79/mo ($66 annual) for 100 unique customers | Yes |
| AnswerConnect | Per minute | Around $350/mo for 200 minutes, plus a setup fee of about $49.99 | Yes |
Read from each vendor's own pricing page in September 2026, except vendors who gate pricing behind a form. We are one of the options listed and you should read this knowing that.
What AnswerConnect does that we do not
Switching costs time, so weigh these capabilities against it before you move.
- Human receptionists around the clock, including weekends and holidays.
- Long operating history and an established reputation in the answering-service market.
Why people leave AnswerConnect
Not a general complaint about the category. The specific wall this vendor puts in front of you.
Per-minute rounding is the complaint that comes up most. If every call is billed up to the next whole minute, a stack of forty-second calls about opening hours bills as forty-second calls plus change, and the effect compounds on a business whose phone rings often and briefly. Behind that sits the pricing gate itself. Renewal conversations are harder when you never had a published rate to argue from, and comparing quotes means collecting them one form at a time.
What the bill does as you grow
The entry price is the cheapest month you will ever have. This is the shape of the rest.
We can't tell you how AnswerConnect scales, because they don't publish it. Third-party reports put the entry around $350 for 200 minutes, roughly $395 for 300 and $575 for 400, with overage reported near $2.50 a minute falling to about $1.85. Treat all of that as indicative and get it confirmed. What we can state is ours: $49 for 200 answered calls, $149 for 750, $349 for 2,000, with $0.45, $0.35 and $0.25 for anything past the allowance, and no setup fee.
What moving off AnswerConnect actually involves
Forwarding takes five minutes. Here is the part that takes an afternoon.
The awkward part is the contract, not the technology. Answering services of this kind often work on a term with a notice period, so read what you signed before you plan a date. Ask them in writing for your call logs and the current script their receptionists follow. You paid for that script and it's the fastest way to set up whatever answers your phone next. Then it's a forwarding change like any other.
Where we fall short
Common questions
Which answering services publish a price I can read today?
Ruby, Abby Connect, Rosie, Goodcall, Dialzara, Slang.ai and GreetKeeper all put prices on the page. AnswerConnect does not. If you'd rather compare than schedule a call, that alone narrows your shortlist.
Is there a human service that publishes its rate?
Ruby publishes tiers from $250 for 50 minutes up to $1,725 for 500. Abby Connect publishes $165 for 50 Abby Minutes. Neither publishes an overage rate, so you'll still be asking one question by email.
Can I get out of a per-minute contract early?
Check your notice period before you shop, not after. Answering-service agreements often run on a term, and your cheapest switch starts the month your notice lands rather than the month you got annoyed.
