Forward unanswered Grasshopper calls to an AI receptionist
Grasshopper rings your numbers in order when nobody answers. Put your cell first and GreetKeeper second, and every missed caller gets a conversation.
The four forwarding modes on Grasshopper
Grasshopper's forwarding lives on each extension. You list the numbers it should call and choose whether they ring in order or all at once. Each number gets its own time of day. An unanswered-call setup is simply your cell above GreetKeeper, in order.
| Mode | Grasshopper extension setting | What reaches GreetKeeper |
|---|---|---|
| No answer | In order: your cell first, GreetKeeper second | Any call you don't pick up on your cell |
| Busy | In order, the same list | A second caller while you're talking to the first |
| Unreachable | Schedule your cell for work hours only, GreetKeeper for all hours | Calls at night and at weekends, while your cell is off the list |
| All calls | GreetKeeper as the only number on the extension | Every call to that extension, straight away |
Grasshopper's page describes the path: Settings, then Call Forwarding Settings, then Extensions. Click edit next to an extension, add each number, set its time of day and choose in-order or simultaneous ringing.
Settings read on Grasshopper's call forwarding page, https://grasshopper.com/features/call-forwarding, on 24 September 2026.
Set up forwarding on Grasshopper
Five steps, from copying the number to switching it off again.
Copy your GreetKeeper number
Sign in to GreetKeeper and copy your local number. Every location gets its own, so pick the one for this Grasshopper line.
Edit the extension your customers reach
In Grasshopper, go to Settings, Call Forwarding Settings, then Extensions, and click edit next to the extension callers land on.
Put your cell first and GreetKeeper second
Keep your cell at the top of the list and add the GreetKeeper number below it. Choose in order if there is no answer, not simultaneous ringing.
Give each number its hours
Set your cell to ring during the hours you work and GreetKeeper to take calls at every hour. After hours, Grasshopper skips your cell and GreetKeeper answers first.
Test by letting it ring out
Ring your Grasshopper number from another phone and ignore your cell. GreetKeeper picks up, and the transcript and summary arrive after the call. To undo, click delete next to the GreetKeeper number.
How unanswered calls play out on a real Grasshopper line
A pest-control operator on Grasshopper spends half the day in crawl spaces. With the cell first and GreetKeeper second, a homeowner calling about wasps at 1pm still gets answered. GreetKeeper asks for the address and books a Thursday slot while the phone vibrates in a pocket.
A personal trainer mid-session can't grab the phone for an hour. In-order ringing gives the cell its chance, then GreetKeeper books the new client's first assessment and texts them the confirmation.
Evenings run on the schedule. Take your cell off after 6pm and GreetKeeper becomes the first number Grasshopper rings. Late callers are greeted at once instead of waiting through your rings.
A second caller while you're on the phone follows the same list. Your cell is busy, Grasshopper moves on, and GreetKeeper answers calls that arrive together at the same time.
Grasshopper settings to double-check
Pick in order, not simultaneous. With simultaneous ringing GreetKeeper answers the moment the call arrives, so it takes the call before you can reach for your cell.
Every extension has its own list. If callers press 2 for sales, set the sales extension too, or those callers keep the old routing.
The full Grasshopper walkthrough, including the call screening setting to switch off, is on our Grasshopper integration page.
Grasshopper's own page says call forwarding is included at no additional cost with a Grasshopper number. Adding GreetKeeper is one more line in a list you already have.
Grasshopper forwarding questions
How do I forward Grasshopper calls when I don't answer?
Edit the extension under Settings, Call Forwarding Settings, Extensions. Put your cell first and your GreetKeeper number second, and choose in-order ringing. Unanswered calls then go to GreetKeeper.
Should Grasshopper ring my phones in order or simultaneously?
In order, for an unanswered-call setup. Simultaneous rings everything at once, and GreetKeeper answers the moment the call arrives, which leaves you no time to pick up.
Can Grasshopper send calls to GreetKeeper only after hours?
Yes. Give your cell the hours you work and GreetKeeper every hour. Outside your hours Grasshopper skips your cell, and GreetKeeper answers first.
What does GreetKeeper do with a missed Grasshopper caller?
It answers, takes the caller's name, number and reason for calling, and books into your calendar. The caller then gets one text with the booking link or confirmation.
