Smith.ai vs Goodcall
Neither Smith.ai nor Goodcall bills by the minute, and that's why they get compared. Smith.ai counts calls: its Pro plan is $150 a month for 75 to 300 calls, at $2.00 to $2.17 each. Goodcall counts unique customers: Starter is $79 for 100, with minutes uncapped and $0.50 for each extra customer.
The difference is the repeat caller. Smith.ai charges every time the phone rings. Goodcall charges once per person per month, however many times they call and however long they talk.
Smith.ai fits a business where most calls come from new people, like a firm taking fresh inquiries, where every call is a new person. Goodcall fits a business on one number whose customers call back often, like a repair shop fielding "is it ready?" calls. Both were read on the vendors' own pages in September 2026.

Find your repeat-caller share first
Export last month's calls and sort them by caller number. Count the rows, then count the distinct numbers. The gap between the two is your repeat-caller share, and it's the figure this whole page rests on.
If the two counts are close, most of your callers ring once. A per-call meter and a per-caller meter then charge you for roughly the same thing. If the distinct count is half the total, you're paying Smith.ai for every callback that Goodcall would count once.
An auto repair shop, counted both ways
Picture a shop with 240 calls a month from 130 different customers. People call to book, call again to ask if the car is ready, and sometimes call a third time about the bill.
On Smith.ai that's 240 calls. It sits inside the Pro range of 75 to 300, priced at $2.00 to $2.17 a call. A busy month with 60 more callbacks moves you toward the top of that range.
On Goodcall it's 130 unique customers. That's past Starter's 100, so you'd either pay $0.50 for each of the 30 extra, or sit on Growth at $129 for 250. The callbacks and their length add nothing.
Where each meter gets expensive
Smith.ai's rate falls as you climb. It's $3.00 a call past the free tier's 25 and about $2.00 on Pro. The $500 Enterprise plan brings it to $1.60 to $1.67 for 300 to more than 1,000 calls. A month full of short callbacks is where the count rises fastest.
Goodcall's cost rises with phone numbers. Every number is an agent on its own plan, so a sales line and a service line are two subscriptions. Three numbers on Starter means three Starter plans before any extra customer is counted.
Can you use both?
You can, and some businesses split by line. Forward your new-inquiry number to one service and your existing-customer line to the other, then compare a month of invoices.
Keep the setup simple. The forwarding mode and ring delay are set at your carrier or phone system. Each line goes wherever you point it, and you can move it back the same way.
GreetKeeper's count: answered calls, one allowance
Disclosure: GreetKeeper is our product, and this section is the only place it appears. It counts answered calls, like Smith.ai, and it keeps every number you run under one allowance. Starter is $49 a month for 200 answered calls, then $0.45 a call. Professional is $149 for 750 at $0.35, and Scale is $349 for 2,000 at $0.25.
The 240-call repair shop fits Professional. Very short calls don't count toward the plan, and neither do robocalls, which are screened out before the greeting. Each number can keep its own hours, greeting and calendar, so a service line can close at six while the booking line runs later.
It books into Google Calendar or Outlook on every plan, and the caller gets one text afterwards with the booking confirmation. Every call arrives as a transcript and a short summary. You start with a 14-day free trial, every feature on and no card.
| Plan | Monthly | Calls included | After that |
|---|---|---|---|
| StarterFor a single location taking calls one line at a time. | $49 | 200 | $0.45 per call |
| ProfessionalBooking, routing and transfers included, not an add-on. | $149 | 750 | $0.35 per call |
| ScaleFor busy phones and longer opening hours. | $349 | 2,000 | $0.25 per call |
Questions people ask about this comparison
Is Goodcall cheaper than Smith.ai?
Usually, if your callers ring more than once. Goodcall's Starter is $79 for 100 unique customers with uncapped minutes. Smith.ai's Pro is $150 for 75 to 300 calls and charges each call. Divide your calls by your distinct callers to see which side you're on.
Does Smith.ai charge for long calls?
No. Smith.ai bills per call, so a 12-minute call is one call. Its rate depends on the tier: $3.00 past the 25 free calls, $2.00 to $2.17 on Pro, and $1.60 to $1.67 on Enterprise.
How does Goodcall price a second phone number?
As a second agent. Goodcall prices per agent, and each phone number is an agent with its own plan. A shop with a sales line and a service line pays for two plans, each from $79 a month on Starter.
What does each charge past the plan?
Both print it. Goodcall charges $0.50 per extra unique customer. Smith.ai's per-call rate falls as the tier rises, from $3.00 on the free tier to $1.60 to $1.67 on Enterprise. Both were read in September 2026.
