Smith.ai review: pricing, features and how it handles a call
Smith.ai sells an AI receptionist billed per call, with a free plan of 25 calls a month and a Pro plan from $150 for 75 calls. Its AI answers first and qualifies the caller against your criteria. Then it books, transfers, or hands the call to a live receptionist as a per-call add-on. The pitch is aimed hardest at law firms.
Before you book a Smith.ai consultation, you probably want two answers. What will your monthly bill look like, and what happens when a stranger calls your line? Both are answered below from Smith.ai's own pricing page and product page, read on 24 September 2026.
Smith.ai has run a human answering service for more than ten years, and its site says that call history trains the AI. Most of its case studies and demo scenarios come from legal intake: personal injury, estate planning and family law firms.
What Smith.ai charges
Smith.ai bills per real call answered, never per minute, so a long intake call costs the same as a short one. You buy a monthly bundle of calls. The per-call rate falls as the bundle grows, and calls past the bundle cost more than calls inside it. The free plan asks for a card at signup and charges nothing until you authorise it.
| Plan | Monthly | Included | Per call |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 25 real calls | $3.00 for each call past 25 |
| Pro, smallest bundle | $150 | 75 real calls | $2.00 per included call |
| Pro, largest bundle | $500 | 300 real calls | $1.67 per included call, $2.17 per extra call |
| Enterprise | From $500 | 300 to 1,000+ real calls | $1.67 at 300 calls, $1.60 at 500, custom above |

What Smith.ai includes on every plan
Smith.ai puts the same feature set on every plan, the free one included. That covers 24/7 answering, call recording with transcripts and summaries, lead qualification, call routing and warm transfers. Scheduling runs through Calendly and similar tools, and its native integrations include Clio and Zapier.
Quality Studio is the part Smith.ai leads with. You set goals and write the call scenarios your business sees. On the free plan you can run up to 50 simulated calls a month. You read the transcripts before a real caller ever reaches the AI. When it finds a gap, it suggests a fix you can approve.
Spam handling works in two layers. Smith.ai blocks more than 20 million known spam and robocall numbers before the AI answers. Those calls don't count toward your bill. For spam that gets through, you can remove up to 10% of your calls from each bill.
Paid tiers add people. Pro brings dedicated onboarding, live phone, email and chat support, and custom SMS branding. Enterprise adds a full-service setup, custom prompting by Smith.ai's own team, multi-location support and a dedicated success manager. Smith.ai also lists English and Spanish call handling.
How Smith.ai handles a call, step by step
Here's the path of one inbound call as Smith.ai describes it on its own product and pricing pages. It's a reading of the vendor's published material, not a test call we placed. Your own flow depends on the playbook you write for it.
Spam is dropped before the greeting
A number on Smith.ai's known-spammer list never reaches your AI Receptionist. If a new spam number slips through, you mark it once and it's blocked from then on.
The AI answers with your playbook
Your custom call playbook sets the script, the call flow and the routing rules for each scenario. Service-aware intake asks different questions for each service you offer, so a divorce enquiry and a will enquiry collect different details.
The caller gets qualified
Smith.ai screens the caller against the criteria you set and flags high-priority prospects. On Enterprise, branching logic changes the questions mid-call based on the caller's answers.
It books, transfers or escalates
A qualified caller can be booked through the scheduling tools Smith.ai connects to. A caller who needs you gets a warm transfer with the context attached. A call the AI can't finish can go to a live Smith.ai receptionist, billed as a per-call add-on.
A summary lands with your team
After the call, Smith.ai sends a structured summary to the team members you choose. You also keep the recording and the transcript, and the call shows up in your analytics and call history.

Where Smith.ai fits
Smith.ai is built around legal intake. Its demo scenarios are law firms, and Clio is the integration it names first. On Enterprise, its AI can pull case status and hearing dates from your case system mid-call. If your firm already runs Clio, you'll recognise most of the setup.
The free plan suits you if you take fewer than one call a day and want to try an AI receptionist before paying. At 25 calls a month the plan costs nothing, and call 26 onward costs $3.00 each.
Pro and Enterprise suit you if you want people behind the software. You get onboarding calls and a support line, plus a success manager on the top tier. Smith.ai plans run month to month with 30 days' notice to cancel, and you can change plans by email.
How GreetKeeper prices the same job
Disclosure: GreetKeeper is our product. Like Smith.ai, GreetKeeper bills per call answered, so a nine-minute intake call counts once. Starter is $49 for 200 calls, Professional $149 for 750 and Scale $349 for 2,000. Past the allowance a call costs $0.45, $0.35 or $0.25 by plan, and that rate sits on our pricing page.
Booking comes on every GreetKeeper plan, writing straight into Google Calendar or Outlook while the caller is still on the line. It reads the name, number and time back before it books. Afterwards the caller gets one text with the booking confirmation, and your on-call person gets a text with the caller's details.
When a caller asks for a person, GreetKeeper transfers to your team. If that line isn't picked up, it tries a second number you nominate. Robocalls, spam calls and very short calls don't count toward your plan. For a law firm, the AI disclosure setting announces the assistant at the start of each call. That's the notice Maine asks of AI in trade, and Utah asks of regulated occupations such as law.
Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial, every feature on and no card needed. There's no setup fee, and a dedicated local number with the area code you choose is included.
